Strawberries
WE SELL DORMANT BARE ROOT PLANTS IN BUNDLES OF 25.Strawberry plants are low growing perennials and provide a delicious supply of fruit either in June (from the appropriately named "June bearers") or throughout the summer (from the day-neutral types). Strawberries are well suited for planting the home garden since they produce fruit very quickly and require a relatively small amount of space. Each plant may produce up to one quart of fruit when grown in rows, beds or even in pots. Common strawberry varieties are one of three types, June bearing, Everbearing and Day Neutral. The difference between the types is the time during the growing season plants produce fruit. There is also a difference in the cultural practice. June-bearing cultivars typically produce fruits during the second year of planting while everbearing and day-neutral cultivars produce fruits during the first year of planting. Strawberries are high in vitamin C content and contain antioxidants, which have anticancer properties. Most cultivars of strawberries are well suited for freezing, jams, jellies, pies as well as for fresh use. Because some strawberry varieties can be sensitive to local growing conditions, a variety that performs well in one location may do poorly in another area. Because of these differences in variety performance, gardeners are strongly advised to experiment with a number of varieties, or contact their local county extension office for recommendations on varieties that do well in your growing conditions. For more information on how to grow strawberries, under "See more details" "Let's get started" you will find more information.

SUMMER OR FALL PLANTING
We get many inquiries regarding planting Strawberries during the summer or fall; we sell dormant bare root plants and the recommendation for planting dormant bare root plants is during spring while temperatures are still cool. We will ship plants for your requested ship date, however if that timeframe is outside the USDA recommended planting time for your area, we will not guarantee the plants; as we have no control over the temperatures the plants may be exposed to during transit as well as the temperatures in your area, when planting. The ideal time to plant a dormant bare root strawberry is early spring.
Unauthorized Propagation is Prohibited by Law on Patented Varieties

Day-Neutral strawberry varieties bear throughout the growing season. Day-neutral cultivars can potentially produce flower buds regardless of day-length, and fruit can be harvested in the summer and fall. However, these cultivars do not initiate floral buds when the temperature exceeds 85 degrees. They can be highly productive and have very flavorful berries when growing conditions are ideal. Day-neutral plants may have three peaks of production each year: late spring/early summer (like June bearers), midsummer, and from late August through frost. However, the summer crop can often be affected by high temperatures, If you want a smaller quantity of fresh fruit throughout the season choose Day Neutral.
